(sounds like 'i love you' huh! haha) but seriously.
For all of you who haven't heard of this line before (MAN! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!??!) its from the movie 300.
The show is about how the tribes fought against each other, the persians wanting to take spartans as their slaves and the king of spartan launching an attack against them despite the 'Gods' ' warnings against it. He only brought an army of 300 as he didn't want men without sons to die. It is a story of courage, bravery, culture, and deceive.
So anyways, I just watched the show on HBO recently, so I decided to write about it.
Firstly, the show uses music a lot through out, which is the best aid in a show that could bring out emotions and feelings in the audience. Every time they go to war, the music is fast, strong, and powerful. It made me almost want to jump off my couch and help them kill some persians. seriously.
so yes. since we're suppose to talk about the different things we've learnt.. i shall not talk bout EVERY communication aspects of this show.. that'd take forever. I shall touch on how the movie uses our perceptions to create images that they know will affect our emotions.
firstly, in the beginning of the show, they showed how boys are trained to be warriors from young. They dressed the boys in simple white loin cloth and thats all. all of them are bald and skinny. it uses our perception process of selection. It uses the quality contrast. The simple costume of the boy in contrary to the grand robes and capes of the men and women stuck in me a feeling that he is being bullied, forced to learn, and forced to be thrown into danger. It shows us that a Spartan boy has no choice to his legacy. No choice to his future. In fact, everything is written out for him in his life, he is a warrior, and that is all.
As the boy fought with a wolf, the intensity in his eyes and the drama build up of the music made me feel his courage. I could see it in his being and in the power of the whole scene, I thought that it was a good play of music and darkness and that the boy acting brought out the intensity very well.
The women in Spartan were all dressed in robes that were very 'of that culture'. It fits in with my prototype of what ladies of that era and area used to wear. Rome, greece, persia.. that whole area. It fit in perfectly and showed how feminine yet fearless they were. Especially the queen. The council were are dressed in God-like robes that made them of a higher degree then the people of Spartan. They were considered the elders and were looked upon as the advisors and closest to the Gods. The way they dressed, and their faces and hair (mostly white and wavy) were a good combination that allowed my mind to perceive them as people on a higher order before they mentioned it.
The men of Spartan were dressed in mere leather underwear and a red cape. with their shield, spear, and helmet, it showed a sort of royalty and warrior like strength in them. It made me link them up with roman soldiers which are also known for their bravery. so yeah! The way they used design and costume to fit in with my prototype perception was really good! They did a good job of contrast with the Spartan warriors and the Persian warriors. Though the Persians seemed to have more armour, they looked weird and freaky with silver plates and an ugly silver mask. Compared to the Spartans, they looked quite silly to me, so it seems like the Spartans have a whole lot more strength and courage though they were out numbered like 1 to 1000.
Well, i think there are a lot more to say.. but i'm kinda tired. so yup! please drop by and leave some comments of maybe MORE forms of communications from 300 or more perception points of it. i think you can watch it on you-tube.. or parts of it anyways.
ps. i liked the show! " THIS IS SPARTAAAAANNN!!!!"

"The men of Spartan were dressed in mere leather underwear and a red cape.."
suits my idea of a sexy man....~ *drools
anyway, i guess we could say the movie achieved it point at the end of the day. i still remember leaving the movie theatre, shaken.
maybe its the blood (like its free), how the spears went through one's body or even how a sword can just chop off a body part so effortlessly.
Thinking back, i think its mainly the sound effects doing most of the work, of course the images do count. but without the sound effects, i believe i won't be that 'traumatised' or that the movie will have such a deep impact on me that i remember most of the show all this while.
p.s : the men have sexy bods. *still drooling
p.p.s : meet the spartans suck. does no justice to the original. i guess it was intended not to do any justice tho. hahahah.
JX~

OI ENID! youre funny la please. open your eyes bigger! then you'll understand. (: silly woman.
wha salty (jx) the show has plenty of cool and other exciting things and you only look at the men in their leather tights. terrible. tsk. stop drooling over your keyboard lah. (:
anyways yeah i agree with what you said bout the effects. i think if i muted my tv, i wouldnt have felt any sense of awe or fear for the men or the kid. there was one part of the show when the army was attacking then i think they used some new song. by new song i mean our generation kinda song.. rock song. i thought that was quite cool. like links to the younger generation.. (ie me, not you... HAHA im still a teen remember.) and like yeah pumps up feelings maybe? or at least an interest in the youth. felt a bit funny though. cause the song is not an 'army' fighting kinda song. ohwells. thats all! NEXT POST. 'THE EILEEN SHOW' eps 1. please stay tuned.
omgosh!! *jumps up n down in glee*
eh. damn.
got my fat pregnant like body leh.
but nvm at least i look like i got C-D cups. muahahas.
I watched 300 too. i love it lar. Spartans... prepared for glory.
The director in 300 definitely bring about a change in cinematography, plenty of scenes with slow motion actions(Different from Matrix in some ways); And of course throughout the show, the director created very mystical and tranquil ambiance using the terrains, which didn't felt earthly, probably to portray a feeling that the warriors were close to their 'Gods'.
I just love the part when King Leonidas send the Persian messenger down to the eternal depths of hell haha. Funny thing is, if I were the messenger, I would definitely move myself away from the Gigantic black hole of death, it must have been there for a reason. Well, that scene was definitely necessary to portray the Spartans' mentality of "I do not care who the hell you are, mess with us and you shall pay".
300 was a marvelous show, the plot was good. The whole show depicts the strength of 300 spartans who were willing to sacrifice to protect their homeland, their families and to preserve their honor. It definately brought an impact to audience, as it showed will .. they never once gave up, even till the very end. It gives people the feeling that.. the 300 spartans are dozens of Iron man. The will is their weapon and the mind controls the will.

yeah now that you mentioned it mark, the terrain and atmosphere created was indeed fantasy like. very Godly. good point! noticed it, but i didnt think about it. haha especially when the boy was fighting with the wolf.
i loved the whole slo-mo thing while they were fighting. the charging in, the determined look on the spartans faces though they knew they were fighting to death. and the foot work while they fought, very calculated and while practised.
yeah sam, it kinda makes you wonder like how they had so much determination in them right.. just for the glory of their country, and their men. walking into their death but prepared to make a statement in history. i wonder if i can do that.. hmm..
QUESTION! was this story a true story??
